A Case Report of Lead Poisoning

Abstract
A case of lead poisoning in the adult members of a family was investigated clinically
and in the toxicology laboratory. The occurrence wart noteworthy in that
(1) The lead exposure was from ingestion of tome-made mineral herb pills;
(2) Considerably high doses of lead were estimated from the Pills;
(3) These doses were related to sequential clinical measurements.
A 21-year-old Korean female was admitted to dept. of Int. Medicine of Han Yang
University Hospital via E.R. on 17th. Jan 1980. Her chief complains were severe
abdominal pain(left), nausea, vomiting an4 headache.
On admission, laboratory examinations were as follows;
1. Anemia with slight hypochromia and anisocytosis, reticulocytosis and basophilic
stippling of erythrocite in peripheral blood.
2. Urine coproporphyrin in 24 hours was 633.4¥ìg.
3. Blood lead wart 47.6¥ìg/dl.
4. Urine lead wart 258.4¥ìg/L.
5. Urine ¥ä-Aminolevulinic acid was 7.7§·/dl.
On analysis of home-made mineral hearb pill, 379.4¥ìg/100gm of lead wart measured.
She wart diagnosed as lead poisoning.
